It’s alarming

The cost to instrument a network has fallen dramatically. You can get a pressure/flow logger for less than £200, US$260, EUR230 at today’s exchange rates. But what’s not so easy is to make use of the information that’s derived from those devices. Today we want to highlight just one function: alarms.alarm-clock-museum-a-collection-of-wallpaper-preview

Alarms can be useful.  But setting the thresholds so you don’t get too many or too few alarms is tricky.

Deploy a thousand loggers and that becomes a big task. The trend is towards denser deployment – 5 or 6 loggers per DMA, so the numbers of loggers in larger water companies is rapidly heading towards 10,000 loggers. Threshold setting becomes a huge task. Checking the thresholds every quarter to ensure they’re still valid: an enormous task.

Set no threshold (more common than you might imagine), and save yourself the time, but get less value from the devices.

To help with this, i2O has introduced AATS – Assisted Alarm Threshold Setting.

We’ve developed software that suggests appropriate levels for the thresholds.  Click a button to accept them. i2O’s Advanced Analytics does the things that people used to do or don’t have time to do. It helps to maximise investment in network monitoring and frees people up to do more valuable things.
